The Hawaiian phrase above means "Here I am, here you are," which I thought was pretty perfect for describing my week in Oahu at the beginning of March. After attending the amazing International Conference on Language Documentation and Conservation at the University of Hawaii, I found myself with a few days of extra time to wander around the island, which I mostly did alone. After getting used to the fantastic public bus system, I ended up taking a few longer rides to Kailua and Lanikai from Honolulu, a well as visiting the densely-jungled Hau'ula loop trail after winding around the highway for two hours on a rainy, misty day. 88 mosquito bites and a cancelled flight to LA later, I made it back to the mainland, but hopefully will return Hawaii and explore more of what its beautiful islands have to offer.
