St. Patty's SLC Style
March 23, 2012
It’s true that a large chunk of Irish-Catholic descendants helped settle Utah along with the Mormons. But the modern St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Salt Lake City is not exclusive to just the Irish anymore. Anyone who wants to participate is welcome and so we get a hodgepodge of everyone from Scottish bagpipe players, Masons and Teamsters to Anti-Mitt Romney groups and basset hound clubs. Public drinking still isn’t allowed but we were able to get our beer on in a small penned-off enclosure next to the Gateway’s Grand Hall. And of course we were welcome to drink the night away (until 1 a.m.) later that night.
Also, look at this: A Hard Trek to Humility. The Lens blog recently featured French photographers Fabrice Nadjari and Cedric Houin who travelled to a remote part of Afghanistan where the war hasn’t reached, and photographed the inhabitants.
